Green Eggs and Ham is one of Dr. Seuss' many well-known literary works for children. The book has two main characters- Sam I, and the narrator (who stays unnamed throughout the book). Sam I Am is persistent in trying to get the narrator to try green eggs in ham, in different locations, with different characters, and while doing different things. The narrator continues to refuse the green eggs and ham until near the end, when he finally tries the food and decides that he does, indeed, love green eggs and ham!
This book is great for choral reading, because it has a constant meter, and repeated phrases. Another fun exercise that would complement this book well is one in which the students each develop their own addition to the book. This would help them improve their abilities to create settings and plots. For example, a student may choose to add something like "Would you like them in a bed, would you like them on a sled?" This would also encourage the students to positively cultivate their imaginations, boosting their confidence, and allowing them to be free in their creativity.
